pathways through art

The legend of the Green Lady and her ominous presence in the swamps near St. Mary's has been a rich inspiration for story and visual art created by young people from Nicholas St. Youth Space.

Artworks created by the young participants will be presented on Thursday 26th March 2026, 5pm at 19 Nicholas Street, including a a tapestry facilitated by visual artist Shannen Slattery, slides about the story of the Green Lady, and a photography and story project facilitated by Carrie Barrett and Gillian Kenny-Shinnors. All welcome!

Working with visual artists Gillian Kenny Shinnors and Shannen Slattery and writer Carrie Barrett, the young people have explored a range of artistic disciplines as part of a programme entitled Pathways Through Art, which will be shared with family and friends in the coming weeks.

The participants have also created a tapestry and participated in Paint Punch, most recently as part of the festival PURE Limerick.

The artists have been meeting with the participants at Nicholas St. Youth Space, a hub of creative activity incorporating several programmes across a range of artistic disciplines. The organisation brings opportunities to young people to explore their individual and collective creativity.

Well done to all of the young artists who took part, and thanks to Ross Brosnan, Alex Lloyd, Martin Murray and all the Limerick Youth Service team who co-facilitated this programme. We look forward to sharing the work in the coming months.

Pathways Through Art began in 2025 and is funded by Limerick City and County Council through Regeneration's Economic and Social Intervention Fund.
